Today, Yellow Travel Limited - the leading provider of Birmingham Airport taxi services celebrating 21 years in business in the West Midlands this year, is glad to hear confirmation that our local international airport is pumping a massive £100 million into improving the smooth running of facilities for travelers and all of our Birmingham Airport taxi passengers.
These expensive improvements to the infrastructure will lead to better hold baggage screening, self-service check-in areas, runway access and modernized Air Traffic Control. The (ATC) surface movement radar will also receive a major upgrade. The biggest job will be the complete refurbishment of the hold baggage screening systems. Shortly, the world’s most advanced luggage x-ray sorting facilities will be operational at the airport. This is set to lead to an impressive 100% increase in the number of bags that will be sorted per hour. In addition, there will be a 100% increase in the number of self-service bag drop-off kiosks located in the airport in an effort to up efficiency levels at every turn.
“We have seen enormous growth at Birmingham Airport over the last few years and we are currently welcoming 11 million passengers a year through our terminal. We’re therefore making this investment to enhance operational efficiency and improve the passenger journey in time for the summer 2017 season, when we’ll welcome new routes and anticipate in excess of 12 million passengers over the next year,” stated, Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Birmingham Airport. “Looking more long-term, Birmingham Airport is in a unique position as in 10 years’ time it will become the UK’s only HS2 connected airport, growing the catchment into London with high-speed trains and serving Birmingham from the capital in approximately 30 minutes. We’re therefore working on our master plan to look at options which maximize the benefits of HS2 for Birmingham, the wider region, airlines and passengers.”
As a Birmingham Airport taxi provider, we are glad to learn of the major revamp plans which are badly needed given the record-breaking number of passengers who are now travelling through our nearby international gateway.
